-Large lakes or rivers: Unless you have an embarkation of some sort,
large lakes are almost impossible to cross if the players carry any
equipment that doesn’t float. Also, a player that tries to cross it by
swimming might also face hypothermia.

-Fast-flowing rivers: As with large lakes, the player will probably need
an embarkation to cross it, the additional challenge will be to be able to
control it’s embarkation against the current if he doesn’t want to be to
far from his original destination.

-Lava: Unless there’s a thick crust on the lava and that the player has
good boots and is ready to run, there isn’t much chance for anyone to
cross a lava filled area, the extreme heat of the lava will probably kill
anyone who crosses it in a matter of second unless he has magical
protection against fire and heat.

-Dense foliage: Even if they have good cutting weapons, dense
foliage especially if filled with thorns, can slow players to a crawl,
making it unpractical for the players to try to go through.

-Magical force or elemental walls: magical walls are probably
impossible to cross to almost any player unless he possesses anti-
magic spells.

-Large swamp or bog: Large swamps are not impossible to pass but
are very dangerous terrain; water depth is unpredictable, making a
seemingly shallow area turn much deeper a footstep away. Also, some
kinds of swamps like everglades are filled with dangerous animal like
crocodiles and poisonous snakes. The dampness of the area will make
the players clothes very wet and heavy, taking much more effort to
advance through it, it might also cause hypothermia. Carts are
impossible to move through swamps. Even if it’s filled with water, it is not
much drinkable unless filtered because it is stale and filled with
decomposing organic matter.

-Violent storms, natural or magical: Although violent storms usually
don’t last, they are a force that can really stop or slow to a crawl nearly
anyone, the violent wind and debris added to the rain, snow or sand are
dangerous and visibility is down to only a few feet.

-Locked doors: For indoors, heavy locked doors can be really hard to
cross unless you have a heavy weapon, blasting spell or a highly skilled
lock picker.

-Magical seals: Magical seals are even harder to cross than doors
since only proper word of power or anti-magic can defeat them.

-Pit: A pit, very deep, filled with spears, fire or dangerous beasts can
stop almost anyone in its track unless it can be jumped over.

-Walls: Sturdy walls, especially rocky ones in underground area are
impossible to cross unless you have the proper tools to break them and
have the patience to dig through.

-Rock falls: Rock falls placed in key areas can render a pass in the
mountains or a passage through a corridor very hard.
